New students are always welcome at Absolute Yoga. Basic Yoga is geared toward beginners and those wishing to refresh their practice; therefore, it is recommended for new students. In addition, Pilates classes are open to all levels of participants. If you wish to purchase a mat, please contact Absolute Yoga.
What should I bring? A yoga mat, towel, water, and an open mind! (Yoga mats are available for rental ($2) and purchase ($25-$50))
What do I wear? Wear something that stretches and you find comfortable. Yoga is practiced barefoot. As the room is heated, you may wish to dress in layers.
Can I eat before class? It is recommended that you practice yoga on an empty stomach; however, if you need to eat, have a light snack 1-2 hours prior to class.
Do you have to be really flexible to practice yoga? Most of the poses can be modified to suit your level of flexibility, and your level of flexibility will increase with a regular yoga practice!
What should I expect? You should expect to challenge yourself while stretching and lengthening your muscles. Many students note improved posture and increased relaxation resulting from their first class!
How do I clean my yoga mat? A new sticky mat will perform best once it has been "broken in". This will happen naturally with use, but you may prefer to achieve this result more quickly by scrubbing the mat with a brush and equal parts warm water and vinegar; you can tumble dry it in a dryer for five to ten minutes or air dry and blot with a soft cloth. This will add friction to the surface of your new mat. You can also use a front loading washing machine with a little liquid detergent on cold cycle. Place in the dryer on low temperature for five to ten minutes, or let air dry.
